Health and Fitness for Busy People

Most people want to be healthier, but they do not know how to do this or think that they do not have the time. The truth is that it does not have to take that long or need huge life changes to be healthy. Here are some science-backed tips health and fitness for busy people.

1. Smaller Bowls and Plates, but Taller Glasses

A study conducted by the University of Cambridge found that by using smaller dishes, you can eat up to 29% less calories per day. The reason this happens is that our brain thinks that we are eating the same amount of food, but in reality, we are eating a smaller portion. Cornell University also found the larger the plate, the more likely that you were to overload it. They tested this theory with a buffet with two sizes of plates.

2. Grab-And-Go Food

The worst thing for a diet is being hungry. A study that was published in the Journal of Marketing Research found that if you are hungry when ordering a meal, you will increase the amount of calories that you intake. Meal prepping can increase the chances of you sticking with your diet, which can also save you calories and money in the long run. Even if you only prep snacks and eat them, you are less like to overindulge at your next meal. There are many great easy snacks you can prep like grapes, carrots sticks, and pretzels with low salt.

3. Two Cups of Water Before You Eat a Meal

The journal Obesity published a study in 2015 that revealed drinking two full cups of water a half hour before eating caused moderate weight loss after 12 weeks. Drinking water after you wake up, before eating lunch and dinner, is the simplest thing you can do to improve your overall health. Water also keeps the body hydrated, which helps with joint health, headaches, and waste removal.

4. Workout during the Commercials

No one likes commercials, so you might as well do something healthy when they are playing. Every time those commercials are playing, you can do push-ups, sit-ups, squats, or wall sits. If you have some free weights, add in some curls or arm extensions to your workout. The longer that you watch TV, the more that you need to work out. However, watching Netflix or YouTube does not work because there are not enough commercials to increase your health.

Being healthy and fit only takes a short amount of time per day. So, being busy is really no excuse any more as science has proven that you can be healthy without hours of working out per day. Great Ways to De-Stress After a Busy Day

Life can be exceptionally stressful, whether you are at home raising the kids, out working, or doing it all. Things are tough, especially now when the world feels so uncertain. We’re all worried about what the future might hold. These stresses and worries mean it’s more important than ever to find ways to unwind when you get in from work or put the kids to bed.

Stress might seem like a normal part of life, but if you let it get too much it can lead to depression, unhappiness, mental health issues, and poor sleep patterns. So, here are some great things you can do to help lower your stress levels.

Read

Reading is a wonderful and easy way to escape your own life for a while. It can help you relax, put your problems into perspective, help you to sleep better, and allow you to get a bit of peace and quiet.

Exercise

Exercise is one of the best and most productive ways of letting off some steam and clearing your head. Many people find repetitive exercises such as running or swimming help them to focus and find solutions to any problems they might have. If you are tired and don’t fancy anything too high impact try some gentle yoga to help you unwind.

Talk

Talking about your day when you first get home can help you to put it to rest and leave it behind. Talking about things often stops you from obsessing over them and makes it easier to separate work and home for the rest of the evening.

Laugh

Laughter really is the best medicine when it comes to dealing with stress and feeling better about the world. Simply spending time having fun with your friends or family could be enough. But, if a certain situation is stressing you out, it’s a good idea to try and find ways to make the best out of it, or even laugh about it. Many of us are currently feeling a little stressed out about the impending election and Brexit. A great way to avoid worrying about it too much is to play Ladbrokes Snap Election Bingo.

Cook

Many people find trying out new recipes very relaxing. Especially when you then get to sit and enjoy them with a glass of wine. Look online for some great healthy dinner ideas and start getting more creative with your meals.

Watch TV

We all know that too much TV is bad for us. But, relaxing in front of your favorite show or bringing on a box set occasionally is fantastic escapism.

Some of these ideas might work for you whereas others won’t. So, try them all and stick to what you like. Stress is different for everyone and affects everyone in different ways so it’s important to understand your own feelings and find your own coping mechanisms.
