Essential Tips for Starting a Non-Profit Organization

You are excited to get started with your non-profit organization, and you are looking forward to making a positive impact with your community and the world. However, you need guidance to help you along the way.

Although there is a lot that must go into creating a successful non-profit, it is not so overwhelming that the average person cannot do it. There are some steps that you will need to take when you are in the initial stages of your non-profit start up. The following tips, if implemented correctly, will be the tools you need to have a successful non-profit.

Research

When you are considering starting a non-profit, it is important that you conduct some research. You will need to learn as much as you can about the cause you want to support. This will give you insight into knowing the organizations that already exist that are doing the work you are interested in doing. You will know the areas that still need assistance, as well as organizations that you can work with. By continuing to research, you will ensure your organization stays focused on its original mission.

Tax-Exempt Status

It is important to file for tax-exempt status when you want to operate a non-profit. Unfortunately, many non-profits choose to skip over this step because filing for this status can be expensive. They often realize that they need to complete a 501 c3 lookup

When your organization has tax-exempt status, your donors will be able to receive tax-deductible receipts for any donations they make to your organization. This status is necessary to receive donations from corporations, and you will need it if you plan to apply for grant money for financial assistance.

Do not put unnecessary pressure on yourself. You do not want to find yourself in a position with a major donation pending and you do not have a 501 c3.

Create Your Non-profit Entity

Creating the legal organization for your non-profit can be accomplished in several ways. As previously discussed, the most common way is to establish your business as an independent 501 c3 is through the Internal Revenue Service. This is often a long process, and it requires the incorporation of your company in the state you wish to operate in. You will then need to file for a tax-exempt status using form 1024 from the IRS.

A faster way to do this is to create a non-profit organization through a fiscal sponsorship. This is when an organization that already has 501 c3 exempt status agrees to accept the structure of your non-profit within its organization. This will allow you to begin your non-profit projects while under another organization’s tax exempt status. Fiscal sponsorships are fast, inexpensive and simple. Make sure the organization you choose is reputable and is in good standing with the IRS and other non-profits.

You should have fun when you are helping other people. Always make sure that the people you are helping and the people who volunteer have fun also. That will make your endeavor even more worthwhile.

3 Great Tips to Create Awesome Blog Content

There is no denying the impact a blog can have on your business.  Blogging has better ROI compared to most marketing strategies and it also helps you interact with your target customers. Better still, you can quickly increase your brand’s authority in your niche by growing your followers. In a recent survey, B2B marketers who blog enjoyed 67% more leads than those who don’t.

With this in mind, it is understandable that almost every business now runs a blog. However, the success of most of these blogs is dismal, the main reason being poor content. Most bloggers simply take marketing content from their websites in the hope of increasing traffic but this doesn’t wash with readers.

Good content helps grow blogs faster and you will notice readers will start contributing. If you have been posting without any feedback from readers, it is likely that your content strategy is wrong.

Below are some tips to help you create effective blog content:

  1. Keyword Research and optimization

This is already a belabored point in the search engine optimization (SEO) community. While everyone appreciates the role of keywords in page indexing and SERPs ranking, there are so many ideas on how they should be used. For a blogger, it is important to research and use keywords that are relevant but most importantly, ensure your content tallies with the keyword choice.

Once you have used keyword tools to get the best phrases, go ahead and put them to work. Use them in titles, Meta descriptions and headings. The idea is to give users exactly what they are searching for, hence the need to research on the right keywords. The trend now is to use long-tail phrases that users will most likely use on search engines.

  1. Hook Readers Early

As a blogger, you have to appreciate that internet users have a short attention span. This means they are in a rush to find what they are looking for. Of course there is so much you would like to say in your post but it won’t matter if readers are not inspired to start reading.

One way to captivate their attention is by asking thought-provoking questions, using statistics, a quote or a story. Unlike the rest of your website content, a blog post is supposed to be personal, interactive and conversational.

  1. Create Content that People Care About

Assume you are selling car spare parts in a particular city. If you are creating a blog post, it will obviously have something to do with cars. However, you can add a twist by talking about the main causes of accidents in your city.

Include research in your post and later advise readers on how to avoid such accidents by buying the right car parts and proper maintenance. People don’t really care about your business and it is up to you to show how your services and products can add value to their lives.

There are many other ideas to create great blog content; longer blog content, proper editing, simple language, unique content, punchy conclusions, using headings, and great blog design are other tips to consider. Whatever you do, make sure your blog content is captivating, fresh and relevant to your target audience.
